Earlier this year I was reading a book that I am now certain I was hate reading. As most of you know, I’m a ruthless DNF’er. I typically give a book three chapters or so to really grab me and if it doesn’t, I’m out. There are too many books and not enough time. And if a book is meant to be for me, it’ll come back around. Woo woo? Maybe, but it’s true.

But, this book, instead of DNFing, I just kept going, knowing full well the entire time that I was not enjoying myself. I actively HATED the main character, I thought the plot was entirely ridiculous, and I kept telling myself to put it down. But I didn’t!

The only thing I can figure is that I was reading this book at a time that nothing else was working for me so I just succumbed to it and kept going even though I knew, I KNEW, I’d be giving it a low rating. I should’ve just given up, but I kept going.

Do you have experience with this? Have you read a book that you were actively not enjoying but also couldn’t bring yourself to stop? Is it the same reason that we follow celebrities that we don’t like?

Let’s talk about a few of these books.
