Looking back on my first year with Reading Through Life
I can’t believe it’s been a full year since I first started working with Mia on this Substack, and I’m so grateful for everything it’s brought me! Here’s a quick look back at my experiences and highlights broken out into the best, the hardest, and the most surprising. Thank you for reading and I’m always here to chat in the comments. 😊
The Best
Fun, creative outlet - my day job has me mostly crunching numbers, so this is a welcome distraction
A chance to collaborate with a talented, creative, kind and thoughtful partner in Mia
Getting to chat about books and meet readers through comments and zoom meet-ups!
The Hardest
Editing… (both writing and audio) not my strong suit but I’m happy to hone a new skill!
Reaching more readers - this is something I want to work on in this next year. The more interactions, the more exciting this is!
An influencer, I am not… and that’s not the goal. I don’t want to sacrifice writing about what interests me, or feel pressured to read that ONE book. First and foremost, this needs to be authentic and fun.
I’m fascinated with how accounts can grow so fast!
The Most Surprising
How much I enjoy recording with Mia each month - this honestly was the most intimidating aspect, but I look forward to it every month
It pushes me to reflect on the books I read, and explore patterns in my reading
Bonus - getting to hear about Mia’s books firsthand!
Planning longer form content - why do my ideas always pop up in the middle of the night!?!
My notes app is full of half-baked ideas that I come up with at 2 am 🙃
My Favorite Post
Mia and I both love the horror genre and we had a blast putting together the “Hot Ones” of Horror challenge!
My Year in Numbers
Books reviewed: 134
Articles written: 23
Minutes recorded: nearly 6 hours
Books added to my TBR - the limit does not exist!
My Taste in Books
And in case you’re relatively new here (like me 😊), below are just a few of the books that define my taste.
Thank you for supporting me and Mia, we are both very passionate about Reading Through Life and connecting with you fellow bookworms!
Happy reading,
Carrie
